Seri The Dancing Leader
Saya tengah memimpin dua organisasi yang sangat berbeda. Ibarat sebuah musik. Organisasi yang satu seperti rock, keras, bertenaga, cepat, dalam keteraturan yang terpimpin. Organisasi yang lain seperti jazz, ritme penuh improvisasi mendekati liar, bisa penuh keras bertenaga yang tiba-tiba bisa lembut mendayu. Keteraturan dalam ketidakteraturan.
Organisasi yang satu bekerja mengarah pada target. Aturan-aturan yang tertulis. Kualitas yang terjaga. Cepat menyelesaikan pekerjaan. Kepemimpinan yang jelas. Organisasi yang lain. Bekerja mengarah pada kesenangan. Aturan kata-kata. Kualitas terbaik, terkadang menurun. Sungguh menikmati waktu. Kepemimpinan berganti-ganti.
Bayangkan. Bagaimana saya menari di dua pentas tersebut? Atau anda sendiri yang justru mengalami hal seperti itu? (more…)

Semalam, Damai sulit tidur. Gara-gara kipas angin. Damai yang sudah kliyep-kliyep, mau bobo. Tiba-tiba bangun ketika tahu bapaknya datang. “pas anyin, pas anyin” katanya sambil berlari menyambut kipas angin yang tengah saya bawa. Tak terasa 1 jam dia bermain dengan kipas angin. Tidur pun minta ke kamar nenek, tempat kipas angin itu diletakkan. Merengek. Menangis. Memukul pintu kamar. Pokoknya menolak tidur, terlebih di kamarnya sendiri. (more…)

Thank you. I’m honored to be with you today for your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. Truth be told, I never graduated from college and this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation.
